Aion Glossary
A reference for terms you'll come across on Aion private servers. Each entry briefly explains what a term means and how it affects your choice of server and gameplay on it. The terms are cross-linked, so you can jump straight from an article to matching servers.
- Two Factions (Elyos and Asmodian)
- The world of Aion is split into two warring factions — Elyos and Asmodian — and this is the foundation of the game. Your character belongs to one of them from creation, which determines starting zones, appearance, and side in the conflict. The factions fight each other and a common enemy, so your choice of faction sets who you play for in PvP and sieges. Related: The Abyss, Rifts, Fortress Sieges
- The Abyss
- The Abyss is a special floating zone in Aion where both factions and a third side — the Balaur — converge. It's the main hub of large-scale PvPvE: fortress battles happen here and Abyss Points are earned. The Abyss largely defines Aion's endgame, so activity there is a good indicator of how alive PvP is on a server. Related: Abyss Points (AP), Fortress Sieges, Two Factions (Elyos and Asmodian)
- Abyss Points (AP)
- Abyss Points (AP) are a special currency you earn from PvP and participation in Abyss battles. AP buys prestigious gear and raises your rank in the Abyss. Since AP is earned mainly by fighting other players, it reflects your PvP activity and is one of the main goals on PvP-focused servers. Related: The Abyss, PvP, Fortress Sieges
- Stigmas
- Stigmas are special stones that unlock extra skills for your character beyond the base class kit. By slotting Stigmas, you tailor your build to your playstyle and role in combat. The available Stigma pool and the number of slots are an important part of character progression, so choosing them noticeably affects your strength in PvP and PvE. Related: Classes, Manastones
- Rifts
- Rifts are spatial tears that let players of one faction cross into the other faction's territory. They open the door to invasions and sudden PvP far from the Abyss. Rifts add tension to the game: an enemy from the other side can appear in an ordinary zone at any moment, so players watch them closely and use them for raids. Related: Two Factions (Elyos and Asmodian), PvP, The Abyss
- Flight and Wings
- Flight is Aion's signature feature: characters gain wings and the ability to fly in designated zones. Flight is used both in combat and for travel, adding a vertical dimension to battles that most MMORPGs lack. Flight time is limited, so managing it is part of the tactics, especially in aerial PvP clashes. Related: The Abyss, PvP
- Fortress Sieges
- Fortress sieges are mass battles for control of strongholds in the Abyss and other contested zones. The faction or Legion that captures a fortress gains access to its bonuses and influence in the server's world. Sieges are one of Aion's major PvP events, drawing Legions together, so their schedule and activity matter when choosing a server. Related: The Abyss, Legion, PvP
- Legion
- A Legion is Aion's guild: a group of players from the same faction sharing a name, ranks, and a storage warehouse. Legions take part in sieges and coordinate PvP and group content. A strong Legion is the backbone of organized play on a server, so Legion activity largely determines how alive a project's endgame feels. Related: Fortress Sieges, Two Factions (Elyos and Asmodian)
- Classes
- In Aion, your character starts as one of the base classes, which evolves into a specialization at a certain level: for example, a Warrior becomes a Gladiator or Templar, and a Mage becomes a Sorcerer or Spiritmaster. Your class defines your role in combat — damage, defense, healing, or support. Choosing a class and specialization shapes your playstyle and place in a group, making it one of the first important decisions you make. Related: Stigmas, Manastones
- Manastones
- Manastones are stones inserted into equipment slots that add stats such as attack, defense, accuracy, and more. Choosing the right Manastones strengthens your character for the chosen role. A failed insertion can shatter the stone, so selecting and socketing Manastones is part of gearing up, affecting your final strength in PvP and PvE. Related: Stigmas, Classes
- Aion Classic
- Aion Classic is a version of the game that recreates early Aion, with slow leveling, meaningful group play, and the atmosphere of the first releases. It's chosen by players who prefer an old-school experience over modern speed-ups. On the private scene, Classic servers are valued for unhurried progression and the importance of every level, which is why they're usually listed separately from servers on later versions. Related: Client Version (v1.x — v6.x), Rates (x1, x50, x1000)
- Client Version (v1.x — v6.x)
- Version is the client release number that determines the available classes, zones, systems, and level cap. The private scene runs a wide range of versions, from early 1.x–2.x branches to later 4.x–6.x ones. You can only connect with the client version a server supports, so the version is always listed in a project's description. - Rates (x1, x50, x1000)
- Rates are multipliers for experience, drop, and currency gains compared to the official game. A low-rate server keeps leveling slow, close to the original; a high-rate one lets you reach Abyss PvP content quickly. Rates are one of the top factors players use to pick a server, so they're usually listed near the top of a description. - PvP
- PvP (player versus player) means fighting other players rather than monsters. In Aion, PvP largely revolves around faction conflict, the Abyss, Rifts, and fortress sieges. Servers focused on PvP emphasize frequent cross-faction battles. If you enjoy competing against real opponents, choose projects where PvP content is the main priority. - PvE
- PvE (player versus environment) means playing against the world — monsters, bosses, and instances — rather than other players. Servers focused on PvE emphasize leveling, farming, and cooperative content. Many Aion servers combine PvE with cross-faction PvP, but the label shows where a project's main focus lies. - RvR (Realm versus Realm)
- RvR (Realm versus Realm) is the clash of two factions as whole sides rather than individual players. In Aion, RvR is essentially the entire cross-faction war: the Abyss, sieges, Rifts, and the fight for territory. An RvR label on a server signals a focus on large-scale team conflict between Elyos and Asmodian, not just duels.
