How to choose an Aion private server in 2026

Choosing an Aion server comes down to three decisions: client version, rates and play style. The version defines which classes, zones and mechanics are available; rates set the pace of leveling and loot; the play style defines what the endgame is built around. Each point is covered below, with common questions at the end. BestGames tracks 93 Aion private servers, and every one can be filtered by version and play style in the catalogue's side menu.

Which Aion version to choose

The version is the main criterion. Aion changed noticeably from patch to patch: early Aion Classic stays close to the demanding Korean original, while later versions feel like a fast-paced modern MMORPG. The table below shows how the main branches differ and who they suit.

VersionTypical ratesBest forGameplay highlights
Classic (1.2–2.7)x1–x2Veterans and fans of demanding gameplaySlow progression, every Abyss Point (AP) matters, tense rift fights, the struggle for artifacts in the Abyss.
Mid-rate (4.x)x3–x10Players with limited playtimeBalanced leveling, focus on group fights, regular instances and Fortress Sieges.
PvE-orientedx1–x3Lore explorers and craftersDeep grind, boss raids, resource gathering, a peaceful environment in the starting areas.
Custom PvPx50 and upPlayers who want constant actionGear from the start, fights in the capitals, custom PvP zones, class rebalancing by the staff.
Modern (5.0 and newer)x5 and upFans of recent updatesReworked leveling and PvP progression, the Cubics system in 6.x and an expanded endgame in 7.x. The Gunner and Songweaver (Bard) classes were actually added back in 4.0 and are available from that branch onward.

In the BestGames catalogue, versions with active projects get their own pages. Most live Aion servers are currently concentrated on version 4.8 and the PvE and PvP play styles — you can open them from the filter side menu.

How PvE, PvP and faction battles differ

The play style defines what you aim for at endgame:

  • PvE — raids, instances and character progression, with faction conflict kept to a minimum. Good for a relaxed pace and exploring content.
  • PvP — arenas, duels and constant skirmishes; gear is often granted at the start so you reach the fighting faster.
  • Faction battles (Abyss PvP) — large-scale war between the Elyos and Asmodians over fortresses and Abyss territory; the core of the classic Aion formula.

What to check before registering

Three things are worth checking before you start. First, monetization: if the in-game shop sells items that give a direct combat advantage (enchantment scrolls, stigmas, manastones), the balance on that server is broken — fair projects limit purchases to cosmetics and boosters. Second, the project's age: a server that has been running for several months is more reliable than one launched days ago. Third, connection geography: high ping hurts PvP badly, so pick a project with a server in your region.

Reviews help you form an opinion. On the Aion server pages in the BestGames catalogue, players leave reviews about the balance and stability of each project — they are worth reading before you register.
